CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. . . in support of the fight against femicide
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. . . but let’s not forget about the very real reason behind this movement.
Pinar Gültekin, a 27 year old Turkish woman, was reported missing in Turkey’s Aegean province of Muğla on 16 July and found dead 5 days later after being brutally murdered. Currently, a man has been detained in relation to her killing.
This black and white photo challenge started following Pinar’s death because the people of Turkey regularly see black and white pictures of women who have been violently murdered on the news.
Why? Because Turkey has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world.
This campaign was a way for the women of Turkey to bring attention to this important issue, and to stand in solidarity together with those who have been lost.
Thank you to @JulesyParker and @BusinessChicks for sharing what this is really about.
I also want to acknowledge that domestic violence is experienced by women all over the world and stand in solidarity with them.
The women who inspired me? @Pam Meyerowitz and @Sia Papageorgiou
