Have you hit the “glass ceiling” so many times, it feels as if the top of your head is flat? Has your journey through the executive ranks seem to have stalled out? Are your dedication and hard work going unrewarded? Are you feeling underappreciated or misunderstood in the workplace? If so…welcome to The Club!

“This is THE place, where like-minded, executive-minded, forward-thinking women come to communicate—collaborate—and celebrate everything that it means to be a career-focused woman in a male-dominated work environment. This isn’t about ‘us vs. them.’ This is about us making a name for ourselves—taking a seat, and truly owning that seat, at the executive table—and doing so not as ‘clones’ of men, but as authentic, self-confident, self-empowered women.”

Burn Baby Burn: Life, Leadership, and Career Lessons from Jane Fonda for Executive Women

Jane Fonda—what an absolute icon!

From fitness queen of the ‘80s and ‘90s to an award-winning actress, and now a leading voice in activism and social change, she continues to inspire women across multiple generations to aim higher and be fabulous at every stage of life.

I still hear her “burn baby burn” mantra echoing in my mind (and feel it in my glutes!) from those workout videos that shaped so much more than just our bodies.

These days, Jane is making waves on the speaking and interview circuit and inspiring women globally to step up, stand tall, and own their space—whether that’s in the boardroom, in business, or life.

Let’s unpack some career and leadership lessons from Jane Fonda that executive women can take to heart.

1. Reinvention Is the Name of the Game

Jane is the ultimate example of reinvention. From fitness phenom to Oscar-winning actress and now an activist with a serious agenda, she’s shown us that staying the same isn’t an option if you want to stay relevant.

For executive women, this lesson couldn’t be more on point. We’re not bound to one career path anymore—whether you’re stepping into a different sector, starting a side hustle, or moving into a broader leadership role, the ability to evolve is what keeps you in the game.

Takeaway: Don’t sit still. Challenge yourself to take on new roles and embrace reinvention—it might just be your biggest asset.

2. Use Your Voice for More Than Just Yourself

Jane doesn’t just sit back and stay quiet—she uses her voice to be heard and to make a difference, even when it’s uncomfortable. Whether she’s getting arrested for protesting climate change or fiercely advocating for women’s rights, she’s never been afraid to take it to the limit.

As an executive woman, your voice matters too. But it’s not just about self-promotion—use it to advocate for what’s important, whether it’s gender equity, ethical issues, or inclusion in leadership.

Takeaway: Be bold. Step up and speak out for what matters to you and your community, and don’t back down when it’s tough.

3. Fabulous Has No Age Limit

“It’s never too late—never too late to start over, never too late to be happy.” – Jane Fonda

If there’s one thing Jane Fonda has made crystal clear, it’s that fabulous is ageless. At 86, she’s still showing up, and showing off, and proving that age is just a number when you look after yourself.

For women in leadership, this is a reminder to ditch those arbitrary deadlines society likes to throw at us. You don’t need to have “made it” by 40, 50, or even 60. You’ve got more time than you think to push boundaries and make your mark.

Takeaway: Forget the timeline. Be fabulous on your terms, at any age—because you’ve earned it.

4. Wellness Is Non-Negotiable

Before “wellness” became a buzzword, Jane was leading the charge, reminding us all that looking after our health is the cornerstone of success. The more we invest in ourselves—physically, mentally, emotionally—the more we’ve got to give back in leadership and life.

For executive women who sometimes prioritise others needs above their own, wellness shouldn’t be just a side note; it’s the foundation of everything. Don’t let the weight of the world stop you from prioritising your wellbeing.

Takeaway: Look after yourself first. You can’t lead others if you’re running on empty.

5. Courage Under Fire

Jane’s career hasn’t always been smooth sailing—she’s faced backlash and controversy, particularly around her activism. But she never let that stop her from standing her ground and fighting for what she believes in.

In leadership, especially as women, we’ll inevitably face criticism. But real courage is about staying true to yourself and your values, even when the heat is on.

Takeaway: Don’t fear the fire. If you believe in something, stand firm—even when it’s unpopular.

6. Keep Learning, Keep Growing

Jane’s thirst for knowledge hasn’t waned, even in her later years. She’s always learning, always evolving, and that’s something every executive woman can take on board.

Continuous learning isn’t just about upskilling—it’s about staying curious, adaptable, and ahead of the curve in a fast-changing world. Want to do that MBA in your 50s? Why not! Want to get into AI but are wondering if it’s a young person’s game? Just do it! Don’t stop believin’ in your ability to grow and adapt at any age.

Takeaway: Never stop learning. The world’s moving fast, and you should be too.

Executive women, it’s time to burn—not out, but bright!

Jane Fonda’s life and career are a masterclass in leadership, reinvention, and resilience. For executive women, she’s proof that success isn’t about sticking to one path, but about evolving, learning, and using your voice to be heard and make a difference. Whether you’re burning through corporate barriers or tackling new ventures, let Jane’s fearless example inspire you to lead with purpose and confidence.
